If a magazine inserts/locks in easily with the rifle/carbine open, then try to close the upper/lower and reinsert the rear pin. If you have alignment issues it may just be a an issue with the upper/bolt. I have one rifle that will only take certain magazines (not an AR15 but uses AR15 magazines).
