Sep 8, 2022 · Academic Year 2022 Purpose The objective of MGC shall be to create and maintain high standards in fraternities and sororities by addressing, coordinating, and developing strategic action plans that unify organizations, promote higher education, provide community service, and enhance leadership skills.
It’s pretty much required for Greek life at UCSD. All of the recruitment events are on campus. You’ll see the sororities tabling and handing out flyers on library walk the first two weeks of campus. The actual formal recruitment events start like week 2 or 3 I think and you have to sign up online.

Sororities have a relatively short history at UCSD, with the first sorority being established in 1980. The first sorority at UCSD was Alpha Delta Pi, which was followed by other organizations, such as Delta Gamma, Alpha Phi, and Kappa Alpha Theta. Unlike some other universities, UCSD does not officially recognize or fund Greek life on campus. The Multicultural Greek Council is one of three Greek councils at UCSD. It is composed of 15 Greek fraternities and sororities that stand unified to promote higher education and leadership with the added aspect of a cultural identity. The IFC and PHC are long-standing establishments, while the MGC is a growing, but somewhat under-the-radar force.
